Selecting the Right Equipment for Pet Training

Several factors involved in the selection of the pet training equipment. The equipment chosen for pet training should be easily understood by the pet. For understanding a signal, the pet should either feel the signal or hear the signal or see the signal.  Most pet training equipments rely on the touch that is the physical sensitivity of the pet.  The touch sensitivity in a pet can vary from individual to individual pet, can vary from breed to breed and also rely on the situation.  At a calm situation a pet sensitivity to touch might be at the peak whereas at an excited level of state they cannot feel anything.  A variety of equipments can be used according to the situation or according to the activity.  Most of the pets like dogs can detect even the slightest movement than any human being.  Large equipments can be more effective to catch the attention of the pets.  The pet’s brain has to some way sort out the movement before it can perceive the trainer is trying to communicate.

It is essential to find out whether the equipment used for pet training helps in achieving the desired results

As far as communication is concerned it should be understood by the pet – leave the intentions, but in reality if the usage of equipment does not aim at achieving the desired results, then move on to a different one.  If the pet continues to ignore, or pull out or choke himself or the trainer, it is better to switch the equipment,   also examination of the pet training method and practices needs to be modified in such way that it benefits both the pet and the trainer.  Sometimes the handlers in spite of the ineffective methodology, sticks to it which might not deliver the desired results.

Also one need to consider the effect the equipment has on the trainer.

A soft, subtle signals can be given to the pet with just a fluttering or pulsing signal which originates from a twitch of a finger or fingers, such kind of signals are more heard, understood and welcomed by the pets, than the signals given with the help of a thick lead rod is concerned.  Heavy leads are more popular due to the fact that they are forceful in correcting the pet without hurting the trainer’s hands.  While holding a thick lead rod in a clenched position, it affects the breathing of the trainer; this can be experienced by self examination.  In a clenched position the whole body is in a tensed position right from the jaw, neck to the shoulders.  It is to self analyze whether the training equipment affects the trainer’s emotional wellbeing or not, does he feels calm, relaxed or focused?  Whereas when the trainer relaxes his hands in a butterfly motion, how does he fee?  Hence it is very important that the emotional well being of the trainer using that particular equipment for training has an adverse effect or a good feeling in him.  As the emotional status of a person interferes with the pet training, this aspect needs to be given more care.
