Valuable Tips on Pet Training
Pet training should be started at a very early age, since learning is made easy and simple for the pet. Moreover if the pet is a little older, bad habits are inculcated in them, before training it too needs to be un-learned. Hence it is advisable to raise and train the pet simultaneously.
While training pets it is suggested to train them as gentle as possible by using motivational methods and with a positive approach. Play way methods used in pet training such as “go find” and “hide and seek” games are considered to be more constructive and of non-adversarial nature. The pet training session should be enjoyable for both the pet and the trainer.
It is better to avoid any commands which are not responded properly by the pets, as they think that the commands are optional, there is no use of commanding.
When a command is given to the pet while pet training it needs to be responded by the pet, so it is better to give a command not more than twice to the maximum. Repetition of commands nag the pet and that they might think those commands as a bluff. It is also considered to be an inefficient and ineffective way of delivering the command. During pet training sessions the pet should be given a single command and lure the pet to follow the command by gently enforcing it, when followed needs to be praised and rewarded accordingly, this helps in better learning of the commands by the pets.
During the initial stages of pet training, it is better to avoid combining two commands at a time, like the command “sit down”, this might confuse the pet. Even pets don’t like to be dictated, while delivering the commands it should be a calm and authoritative command, rather than a harsh or a louder one, they can identify the modulation of voice.
The pet’s name should be used in a positive manner, rather than using it with conjunction to warning, punishment or reprimands. The pet and the trainer should be happy in using the pet’s name rather than using it with hesitancy and fear.
It is better to prevent the misbehavior of the pet than to correct it. The yard stick approach cannot be used in correcting the pet, as the relationship between the trainer and the pet gets lost. Correcting the pet at the right time is very essential.
While training the pet, do not give unwanted attention to the pet, as the pets can misbehave to seek the attention of the owner or the trainer and tries to repeat such behavior. While pet training the trainer should have a control over his anger, never ever train the pet during grouchy and impatient times. To get the respect of the pet, a gentle behavior towards them is all needed. And it can never be got if the trainer yells, or hits, or when handled harshly. Studies reveal that fear and stress can inhibit the learning process during pet training.
